I have 18 rifles in total broken down into the following categories.  Note that some rifles support multiple categories:
  1. Bench Rifles- Intended for accuracy target shooting only
  2. Service Rifles- SHF (shit hits the fan) go to guns.  Intended for real world Katrina type situations.  Rifles in this category must be utterly reliable.  Preference is given to calibers that you can easily find ammo for (think raiding the local sporting store while avoiding the zombies).
  3. AK Rifles-  These are in a category by themselves since they can be considered Service Rifles (SHF situations) however the 7.62x39 may not be as readily available as other calibers.
  4. 22 LR- Used primarily for training youngsters
  5. Bear Gun- 308 caliber at a minimum, must be utterly reliable
  6. Home Defense-  must provide stopping power while limiting penetration through walls.  223 AR 15's are in this category since they fragmet much earlier than even a 9mm pistol.  Shotguns using bird shot can fit this category also.  Frangible ammo can make a weapon a good home defense choice.  Think about lights and laser in this category.
  7. SHF, Manstoppers- 223 caliber weapons will not make this grade.  Calibers are 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39 or 308 semi autos.  Shotguns with 00 buckshot are good here too.
  8. Car Gun:  Must be Mil Spec to stand up to the heat generated in the car.  Caliber must be able to penetrate windshield w/o fragmentation (223 ARs elliminated here).
